Here’s my first attempt at trying to aggregate some of my best work. The collection isn’t complete, but hey, it’s a start. Along with some of my favorite images, and yours, I’m including some tips and links that have helped shape how I see the world through my lens. It’s been about ten years since I started taking photography seriously. I’ve learned quite a bit about what to do and what not to do.
Taking snapshots of our kids prompted me to upgrade a very old Nikon F body 35mm to a new model, the N80. I had fun shooting film for several years with my new Nikon film camera. After taking a few courses on photography at the Nikon School of Photography I learned one of the most important lessons about how to get that great shot. Are you ready for the big tip? Here it is: Take a lot of pictures! Makes basic sense doesn’t it? If you take a lot of pictures you are bound to get ONE that’s a winner. I needed to spend $90 bucks with Nikon to learn this important tip. But, it’s a lesson that can be applied to many things in life. Want to know all there is to know about wine? Drink a lot of wine! Same principals really.
In April of 2005 I went to B&H where I buy all my gear because I was traveling to China on business and I wanted to purchase the latest point-and-shoot digital camera to take to Shanghai and Hong Kong. The salesman sold me a better mouse trap. My first digital SLR, a Nikon D70. My digital evolution in photography accelerated. I can now take thousands of pictures to find that one winner! Great. Now I just need some lessons in editing the winners from the losers! - CJB
